Even a laugh…

…can encourage disrespect.

When a child sticks out his tongue at you, it’s funny. Cute.
So you laugh at him.
He finds it amusing. He enjoys it.
He thinks it’s funny too.
He continues sticking out his tongue to other people.

By him sticking out his tongue at you, simply means that he is vulnerable to be above your head (which can lead to a lot of headaches). When you mean business, will he listen?

Likewise, when your fellow classmate disrespects a teacher by making fun of her or answers her in a negative way, it’s funny. He’s such a dare devil.
So you laugh at him.
He finds it amusing. He enjoys it.
He thinks it’s funny too.
He continues making fun of her the next time.

Even though the teacher warns him to act appropriately, he still does not take heed. Simply because, you laughed.

Am learning how to balance both the funny and the serious.
Recognising what’s funny and what’s not.
Being conscious of what’s supposed and what’s not.
And most importantly, holding back my laugh
ter.

Sterness

Urgh, I’m so lacking sternness!
